10 Questions for 2019 – Part 3 – Will 22TCM finally get its due?

8. Will 22TCM finally get its due? Is it really as good as 5.7x28mm?

YES and YES! Haven’t heard of the 22TCM (Tuason Craig Micromagnum) round yet? The round was developed by Armscor Ammunition (sister company to Rock Island Armory who makes more 1911’s than anyone else in the world!) and is a stunner! The cartridge is a 5.56 casing necked down for a 22 long-rifle projectile.

22TCM Specs

22TCM – With muzzle velocity of 1,875 fps (handgun) with a 40 grain weight bullet.

5.7x28mm – Muzzle velocity of 1,655 fps (handgun)

Recoil

Recoil for these two rounds is minimal and similar. If you haven’t shot them, the recoil  is somewhere in-between a 22 long-rifle round and a 9mm. The 22TMC also produces a large fireball out of the muzzle due to the large amount of gun powder in the 5.56 casing.

Price Per Round

Again, the 22TCM round wins again at $0.33 per round versus $0.44 per round for 5.7x28mm.

Verdict

The other thing that makes the 22TCM guns by Rock Island Armory so great is that they give you a 9mm barrel as well as the 22TCM barrel so that way if you can’t find the 22TCM round, you can always swap out the barrel for a 9mm. Also, all Rock Island Armory firearms come with a lifetime warranty! While I am a big fan of the FN 5.7x28mm round, you can get the 22TCM pistol for about half the cost of an FN Five-Seven and the ammo is about half the price, making the 22TCM a winner and a round that deserves it due.

  1. I have one and am sold only wish there were more manufacturers of the ammo and that there were fmj versions available to the general public.

    1. Charles, we have a bunch on the way. I do not have pricing yet but please make sure to sign up for ‘Notify Me When Back In Stock’ on the product page and you will receive an automated email when it comes back in stock.

      1. Here it seems we are talking about centerfire cartridge 57 centerfire and then 22 TCM centerfire the 57×28 is more comparable to the 22 win mag rimfire and I’ll take the 22 win Meg any day over the 5/7 doo to cost, range and accuracy witch are very close. If I was going to do a centerfire I would choose the 22 TCM and it would make a nice rifle round as well short barrel. I do believe trying new and different combinations are fun and interesting with varian outcomes. There’s also well overlooked 762×25 which is an awesome round mostly used the machine guns Russian type and license out to many other countries and reasonably affordable but back to the 57 and TCM 22 both are great rounds.

  2. Have you gotten Armscor 22TCM Ammunition in stock yet? Please let me know when you do and the pricing.
Thanks, have a great New Year! And remember, keep you powder dry and your Bible open.

  3. When will The 22 Tcm pistols be available again? I’ve asked RIA /ARMSCOR many times and always get a definite maybes from them!!!!!
