Let’s Start With The Setup

For this test, we used a Daniel Defense DDM4 Rifle with an 18″ barrel, topped with a NightForce A.T.A.C.R 4-16x42mm. The rifle is outfitted with an Area 419 Hellfire Match muzzle break and a Magpul PRS Lite Stock. To put it mildly, this is an exceptional rifle that is routinely shot out to 1,000 yards at PRS competitions and Accurized AR type competitions. Is Sellier & Bellot 556 Accurate?

Our shooter, Bryce miller shot a four shot group at 0.57 MOA at 100 yards with a Daniel Defense DDM4 Rifle with an 18″ Barrel. Being that 1 MOA is the standard that everyone is trying to achieve, .57 MOA is exceptionally accurate, especially considering this is commercially loaded ammunition by one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in the world. Next, we had our shooter run this ammo through a Magnetospeed V3 chronograph  to determine the consistency of the Sellier & Bellot 5.56×45 77 grain ammo. The maximum FPS for this 556 ammo was 2,767 feet per second, with a minimum FPS of 2,716 and a seven shot average of 2,753 FPS giving it a standard deviation of 17.9. Overall, Sellier & Bellot wildly exceeded our expectations for accuracy and consistency. Simply put, this is match grade ammo.

The Verdict:

With ammunition this accurate, why waste time handloading? When we asked Bryce how he liked the S&B 556 77 grain ammo against other brands such as PMC, Sierra, etc, his answer said everything we needed to know, “Honestly, I stopped evaluating other 77 grain’s. This stuff does great out to 1,000 yards, its competition ready ammo.”
