History of Igman Ammunition

Igman ammunition has its roots in the former Yugoslavia, specifically in the region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company that produces Igman ammunition, known as Igman d.d., was established in 1951 in the town of Konjic, which is located in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Initially, Igman was founded as a military facility called “Vitezit” during the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The facility’s primary purpose was to manufacture explosives for both civilian and military use. Over time, it expanded its operations and started producing various types of ammunition for the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) and other clients.

During the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s and the subsequent Bosnian War (1992-1995), the Igman factory found itself located near the front lines. The facility became strategically important due to its production capabilities, and it was fiercely contested by different factions involved in the conflict.

After the war, the Igman factory resumed its operations and became a privately-owned company known as Igman d.d. It continued to produce a wide range of ammunition, including small arms ammunition, artillery shells, and mortar rounds. Igman ammunition gained a reputation for its quality and reliability, and it started exporting its products to various countries around the world.

Is Igman Ammunition Corrosive?

Igman’s ammo uses no corrosive primers meaning that their ammo will not cause harm to guns. For the people that don’t know what this means, corrosive ammunition is ammo that uses a primer with chemicals that, when ignited, leave a residue of corrosive salts. Most often, these primers have potassium chlorate or sodium perchlorate which, when burned, decomposes into potassium chloride or sodium chloride.

Most modern ammunition is not corrosive, but usually old military surplus ammo is. For military surplus ammo, there are two types of primers: Berdan and Boxer. Boxer-primer ammo is not corrosive, so you dont have to worry about that type. If your ammo is Berdan-primed, its better to be safe than sorry and treat the ammunition as if it is corrosive.

Is Igman Ammunition Clean or Dirty?

Igman Ammunition is generally considered to be clean-burning. The company puts significant effort into ensuring that their ammo produces minimal fouling and residue during firing. By utilizing advanced manufacturing processes and selecting high-quality components, Igman aims to reduce the buildup of carbon and other debris in firearms.

Clean-burning ammunition offers several benefits to shooters. It helps to maintain the overall performance and reliability of the firearm by reducing the need for frequent cleaning and maintenance. Additionally, less fouling can result in smoother operation, improved accuracy, and a more enjoyable shooting experience.

You can overall expect Igman ammo to be clean-burning, but it’s essential to follow proper firearm maintenance procedures to maintain cleanliness and reliability over time.

Is Igman Ammo Any Good?

Igman ammunition has generally been regarded as reliable and of good quality by many shooters and customers. The company has a long history in the production of ammunition and has supplied military, law enforcement, and civilian markets for several decades.

Many shooters have reported positive experiences with Igman ammunition, praising its accuracy, reliability, and consistent performance. The ammunition is known for functioning well in a variety of firearms and delivering satisfactory results on the shooting range or in practical applications.

Here at True Shot, many of employees including myself have shot and tested their ammo. With a couple hundred rounds with their .223 Rem down range has proven to me I will be buying more Igman. Granted, I have only tried there .223, 55.56 and 7.62×39 so far but it didn’t disappoint one bit.

With their 7.62×39 being only brass and steel being the favorite sibling for AK platforms, the brass ammo held strong through the AK. With consistent groupings and no jams, it didn’t feel any different from regular steel rounds.
